Joe Lycett reveals baby name scare after Hugo Boss stunt

Must read

Joe Lycett has recalled a scare he almost had when registering his baby son’s name.

The former Taskmaster star announced the birth of his baby boy via Instagram last month with his long-term partner, whose identity remains unknown.

Opening up on fatherhood in a new interview on Rob Beckett and Josh Widdicombe‘s Parenting Hell podcast, Lycett revealed an amusing incident when officially registering his new baby’s name.

“Talk about things coming back to bite you on the arse,” he began. “When we went to register his name the registrar said to me ‘Have you been known by any other names?”

“I said ‘no’ then I looked over at my partner and she sort of furrowed her brow and I went, ‘Oh yeah, I was known as a Hugo Boss for a while,” he added.

In 2020, the Late Night Lycett star publicly changed his name to Hugo Boss in a protest against the German fashion brand.

“She [the registrar] basically said if you were called Hugo Boss on your passport, then we’ll have to put that on his birth certificate that the father is Joe Lycett, also known as Hugo Boss,” Lycett explained in a panicked tone.

“Fortunately, the passport was rejected because my signature as Hugo Boss when I was Hugo Boss for that period was a cock and balls,” he said. “So they rejected it.”

Lycett went on to joke that “there’s so much extra admin” with having a baby, but that things were going well.

The comedian was full of praise for his other half as they navigate parenthood for the first time together, telling Rob and Josh that he was “immensely proud” of her, with the baby’s mother taking to it like a “duck to water”.

Lycett also addressed the public response to his baby announcement, which was mostly positive: “Everyone by and large has been really nice about it and we’ve been heartened by it.”
