Joe Biden’s campaign has suspended all outbound communications, including TV ads as the president is “grateful” to hear Donald Trump is safe and doing well after he was shot at during a rally in Pennsylvania.
He said: “I have been briefed on the shooting at Donald Trump’s rally in Pennsylvania.
“I’m grateful to hear that he’s safe and doing well. I’m praying for him and his family and for all those who were at the rally, as we await further information.
“Jill and I are grateful to the Secret Service for getting him to safety. There’s no place for this kind of violence in America. We must unite as one nation to condemn it.”
An eyewitness who was in the audience when the incident occured is saying that he noticed a man “bear-crawling up the roof of the building about 50ft away from us.”
The man added: “He had a rifle, you could clearly see. We were pointing at him and told the police.
“I’m thinking to myself, ‘why is Trump still speaking? Why haven’t they pulled him off the stage?’
“I’m standing there pointing at him for two to three minutes and next thing you know, five shots ran out.”
