Joanna Page has revealed that filming for Gavin & Stacey has made her feel like a ‘pop star’ due to the gathering of huge crowds trying to catch a glimpse.

The Welsh actress, 47, who has played Stacey in the sitcom since 2007, has been holed up in a hotel in Wales as the cast film the final ever episode.

Speaking from her hotel room on her Off The Telly podcast – which she hosts with EastEnders icon Natalie Cassidy – Joanna kept her lips sealed on details of the upcoming Christmas special.

But she did speak on how it has felt to have swathes of fans turn out to watch the actors film – and the overwhelming support they have given.

‘It’s mad you pull up in the car and get out and the crowd just go “Wayyy” and you genuinely feel like a pop star or something,’ she said of filming in Wales.

Asked by Natalie how it has felt to be back filming, Joanna said: ‘Oh my god it’s so much fun. I’m laughing absolutely loads it’s just mad though, it’s absolutely mad.

‘I mean we’ve been down the slots, I’ve been filming my scenes with Nessa at the slots. And it’s just made because there’s so many people, we’ll be filming and then the beach will suddenly get full of people coming to watch. It’s so lovely and sweet.’

She added: ‘And there’s so many dogs being brought down so I’m meeting all these different little dogs.

‘The public are coming and so are the fans. It’s absolutely gorgeous because it’s been pouring with rain recently but people are still coming down and standing to watch us. It’s really sweet, and bringing little gifts and presents. It’s lovely.’

Snaps have captured the huge crowds of fans who have turned out to watch the cast film in recent week, but Joanna said production have put in place barriers to make sure some scenes are not spoiled.

She said: ‘We’ve been filming down by Stacey’s house recently and we did have barriers up for the last special but the barriers are set back quite far apart now, really far down the road, so you can’t really see anything or what’s going on.

‘But it’s mad you pull up in the car and get out and the crowd just go ‘Weyyy’ and you genuinely feel like a pop star or something.’

Joanna added: ‘So I’m enjoying myself for now because I know that when it finishes I’ll be going home to my four children, who’ll be like “Mummy mummy can I have my tea, mummy I want this I want that” so I’m enjoying being fussed over, because it’s not going to last for long.’

The Love Actually star was then asked if there was anything she could say about the upcoming special, but insisted any details were top secret.

‘Everything is so secretive down her though,’ Joanna said.

‘I went to Marks & Spencer yesterday to go and buy some bras and when I was in there I’d had a massage in the hotel and the lady behind the counter asked me which hotel I was in and I had to go “I can’t say”. I’m too scared to say anything. I can’t say anything at all.’

Gavin And Stacey fans were sent into a frenzy when the cast were seen filming a wedding scene for the much-anticipated final episode on Tuesday

After the last Christmas special ended on a proposal cliffhanger it looked as though James Corden‘s character Smithy could finally get his happy ending with Ruth Jones’ Nessa after he was seen filming in a wedding suit.

Making a surprise return to the set was actor Steffan Rhodri – who plays Nessa’s ex-fiancé Dave Coaches – casting doubt on whether Smithy and Nessa will tie the knot after five years of speculation.

Steffan, who donned a black leather jacket and a quirky patterned print shirt, was pictured heading onto the set with Julia Davis, who plays Dawn Sutcliffe.

He made his last appearance in Gavin and Stacey at the end of the third series when Nessa decided that she couldn’t go through with their wedding.

His surprise return will no doubt spark worry from fans that Smithy declined Nessa’s proposal.

Nessa, who was noticeably absent from the set was also seen without a ring on her wedding finger this week – sparking more speculation the pair don’t tie the knot.
