Jet2 issues warning of ‘delays’ as storms hit holiday destinations

Must read

Jet2 has issued a warning to its passengers about potential ‘delays’ due to ‘adverse weather conditions’ affecting parts of Eastern Europe and the Mediterranean. The airline has cited Air Traffic Control slot delays as the cause and is advising passengers to allow extra time for their journey to the airport if they are travelling to an area experiencing poor weather.

The delays are expected to affect those arriving, departing or flying across the Eastern Mediterranean and the Balearic Islands. The warning from Jet2 is in effect from July 1 to July 3.

This comes as the Balearic Islands are being hit by storms, with heavy rain also predicted for parts of mainland Europe including Austria, Czechia and Poland, according to accuweather.com. Spain’s Meteorological agency AEMET has issued yellow and amber weather warnings for the Balearic Islands and mainland Spain.

Ibiza and Majorca have been issued with yellow warnings for rain and storms. An amber warning for a ‘sudden rise in sea levels’, known as a ‘meteotsunami’, is in place for Menorca.

Yellow and amber warnings for heavy rain have also been issued for Spain’s east coast, including Barcelona, Valencia and Alicante, reports the Manchester Evening News.

Jet2 released a statement on their website, detailing: “We are currently experiencing some Air Traffic Control slot delays on flights that are due to arrive, depart or fly across the Eastern Mediterranean and the Balearic Islands, this is due to adverse weather conditions (Thunder Storms) in many parts of Eastern Europe. If you are currently on holiday and experiencing bad weather, please allow plenty of time to get to the airport and allow for potential bad road conditions on route.”

“Our UK Based Operations team is working hard to minimise disruption to our flying programme, however, you may experience some disruption if you are travelling to/from areas affected. All Jet2.com flights are operating. Where possible we will board flights as close to on time as possible, this will allow us to to achieve a departure as soon as we are given clearance from Air Traffic Control. We apologise in advance if this causes an extended wait on board before you depart. Our Friendly Red Team and Crew will keep you updated.”

The airline also noted that customers should monitor their booking portal for updates and expect contact via SMS and email.
