Jet2 has sounded the alarm for travellers that several key Mediterranean routes are likely to face delays and disruption owing to violent thunderstorms.
Weather conditions in the eastern Mediterranean and Spanish hotspots including Balearic Islands, including Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza and Formentera, are causing havoc with more forecasted until Wednesday, June 3.
Encouraging passengers to plan for longer journey times to their respective airports, they also urged consideration of poor driving conditions.
Following updates on Sunday night, Jet2 revealed: “We are currently experiencing some Air Traffic Control slot delays on flights that are due to arrive, depart or fly across the Eastern Mediterranean and the Balearic Islands, this is due to adverse weather conditions (Thunder Storms) in many parts of Eastern Europe.”
“If you are currently on holiday and experiencing bad weather, please allow plenty of time to get to the airport and allow for potential bad road conditions on route. Our UK Based Operations team is working hard to minimise disruption to our flying programme, however, you may experience some disruption if you are travelling to/from areas affected.”
The airline has advised passengers to check their website for flight updates, stating: “All Jet2.com flights are operating. Where possible we will board flights as close to on time as possible, this will allow us to achieve a departure as soon as we are given clearance from Air Traffic Control. We apologise in advance if this causes an extended wait on board before you depart. Our Friendly Red Team and Crew will keep you updated.”
Viral £11.99 hand luggage bag saves on airline fees
A viral hand luggage bag that allows you to save money on extra airline fees has gone down a storm with travellers.
The Narwey 20 Litre Cabin Bag is a foldable travel bag that fits into the strict Ryanair guidelines for hand luggage. It measures 40cm by 40cm by 25cm, and is 20 litres deep.
Daily Record Trends Writer Nicola Roy recently tested out the viral bag on a Ryanair flight to Porto – and said it was a “better option than a suitcase”.
“And after hearing rave reviews of the £11.99 Amazon Narway Cabin Bag, and how much could fit, I thought it was time to give it a go and see if it would suffice for a four-day trip so that I didn’t have to fork out for extra luggage allowance,” she said.
“As I started packing, I actually found it incredibly easy to fit everything in. The bag seemed to expand with each piece of clothing. By the time I had fit everything in, the bag was able to zip up with ease, and didn’t even feel too heavy.”

You can update your contact details as often as you wish and at any time on the App or our website. Weather conditions have been poor in the region recently with violent storms common. Just last month, 826 lightning strikes were counted in the Balearic Islands within 24 hours.
Hailstones with a diameter of 2cm also battered the area. There have been extreme weather conditions across various places recently, causing disruption.
Mallorca experienced significant rainfall with 9cm falling in less than an hour on June 11. Operations at Palma airport were temporarily halted due to runway flooding, meanwhile, social media users shared videos of rainwater cascading through the ceiling in the airport’s duty-free shop.
