Jennifer Aniston’s Jewelry at the Emmys Made History

Must read

Sometimes Jennifer Aniston really goes for it with her red carpet jewelry. Remember that double row of Bulgari diamonds at the Oscars in 2006? Remember that mid century Cartier necklace from Fred Leighton at the 2020 Globes? That one even brought a royal provenance: Prince Rainier bought one very similar to it for Princess Grace on their wedding day in 1956.

At first glance Aniston’s jewelry at the Emmys tonight, where she is nominated for her work in The Morning Show, seems to follow her more discreet jewelry path. But let’s look more closely at all those Tiffany diamonds, especially that bracelet. It is from the Tiffany & Co archives, circa 1920-1935, placing it squarely in the Art Deco period, considered to be one of the greatest eras in jewelry design.

That period between the wars is defined by a geometry that displayed a radical break with the past. It is marked by its clean lines and bold shapes. Pieces from the Art Deco period, especially those from a house like Tiffany, are some of jewelry’s Holy Grails and continuously being in impressive prices at auction. To wear Art Deco is to wear history. And so although the all-white diamond palette and the lack of necklace might make her jewelry seem subdued, that Art Deco bracelet makes a statement all its own. And for jewelry experts, it’s one of the stories of the night.

Her earrings too are from the Tiffany archives, a few decades after Art Deck, 1950-1960. That period in jewelry history displays the full influence Hollywood had on aesthetics. Pieces are full of ladylike elegance and glamour.

Aniston as always, wears these pieces with her signature California ease, which makes even a piece of jewelry history seem at home.
