Janey Godley receiving ‘end-of-life’ care after cancer spreads

Scottish comedian Janey Godley has confirmed she is receiving “end-of-life” care.

The comedian, from Glasgow, cancelled her autumn tour earlier this month after her doctors advised her to stop working.

In a video shared on X, formerly known as Twitter, the 63-year-old confirmed she was receiving palliative care and would be going into a hospice for the foreseeable future.

Godley said the “devastating news” was difficult to speak about after stating that she could no longer go through chemotherapy.

“The chemo ran out of options, and I couldn’t take anymore of it,” she said.

“The cancer has spread, so it looks like this will be getting to near the end of it, and it’s really difficult to speak about this and say it to people.”

In her video, she thanked the NHS, Marie Curie as well as medical staff who have helped her so far.

“It is devastating news, to know that I’m facing end of life but we all come to an end some time,” she said.

The comedian also thanked fans for the “amazing” support of her family before stating she did not know how long she had left.

“I don’t know how long I’ve got left before anybody asks, I’m not a tick tock, I just want you all to know that I appreciate all the love you’ve gave me,” she added.

“Cancer affects one in two people and it’s affected me.”

The 63-year-old finished the video by sending love and support to people living with a “life-limiting disease” before confirming it was why she had to cancel the tour.

Godley, who found viral fame with her dubbed pastiches of Nicola Sturgeon’s coronavirus news briefings during the pandemic, revealed she had ovarian cancer in November 2021.

In 2022 the comedian was given the all-clear and said in a post to X that a scan showed “no evidence of disease”.

However, she later announced that another scan had shown signs of the disease in her abdomen but added that she would continue with her tour in February and March 2023
