Jamie Foxx and Cameron Diaz transformed into CIA spies in the first trailer for their thriller Back in Action this week – after his near-death experience on set.
Filming came to a halt on the film due to a mysterious medical emergency involving Foxx, 56,in April 2023. Subsequently, filming for Back in Action relocated to Georgia, where Jamie was unexpectedly hospitalized.
With the star now well on the road to recovery, Netflix dropped the teaser trailer showing Foxx and comeback star Diaz, 52, playing Matt and Emily, who, after retiring from their CIA spy careers to start a family, are unexpectedly pulled back into the world of international espionage when their cover is blown.
The trailer begins with Emily telling Matt: ‘You know I love our life’ as flashbacks of the pair fighting off assassins with petrol and flames in front of their terrified kids are shown.
Emily says: ‘Tonight for the first time in a really long time, I felt alive again, I felt like that b***h again.’

Their children are seen asking them: ‘What’s going on?’ with Matt responding: ‘We were operatives for the CIA.’
Their child says: ‘I knew you guys were lying about something but I never thought you were cool enough to be spies.’
Emily is seen pursuing a criminal in a high-octane motorbike chase in London – before attacking a man on a speedboat. Matt is also seen in his own fight scene in a nightclub as the pair proclaim: ‘This is like old times.’
The fight scenes move to a snowy mountain with Emily wrapping her legs around Matt before they jump off a cliff with a parachute.
Emily says: ‘You know if I didn’t have superior inner thigh strength you would be dead’ with Matt quipping: ‘Your inner thighs saved my life!’
Back In Action will debut on Netflix on January 17 2025 after being delayed by months. It was first slated for a 2024 release and has since been pushed back from its November 2024 premiere.
While most specifics surrounding the actor’s health concern have been kept private, his daughter Corinne took to her Instagram Stories in May 2023 to provide an update on Foxx’s condition.
‘My Dad has been out of the hospital for weeks, recuperating. In fact, he was playing pickleball yesterday! Thanks for everyone’s prayers and support!’

Diaz and Foxx looked incredible as they transformed into spies
The Any Given Sunday co-stars resumed filming of this movie on January 21.
In December 2023, Foxx opened up about his near-death experience for his first public appearance since his shock health scare at the Critics Choice Association’s event.
Foxx admitted that he could not ‘walk’ six months earlier, via Deadline, though he refrained from revealing too many details about the medical crisis that put him in the hospital.
‘You know, it’s crazy, I couldn’t do that six months ago,’ he said after strutting across the stage to the microphone. ‘I couldn’t actually walk.’
‘I want to thanks everybody. I’ve been through something, I’ve been through some things,’ he said to thunderous applause.
The actor was visibly moved as he accepted the Vanguard Award at the association’s Celebration of Cinema & Television: Honoring Black, Latino and AAPI Achievements in Los Angeles.
‘I cherish every single minute now — it’s different,’ he continued. ‘I wouldn’t wish what I went through on my worst enemy because it’s tough when it’s almost over … when you see the tunnel. I saw the tunnel — I didn’t see the light.

‘It was hot in that tunnel too, I don’t know where I was going. ‘S**t, am I going to the right place?’”
In his 12-minute speech, he also made light of some of the baseless conspiracy theories that spread while he was hospitalized and then out of the public eye for several months.
Diaz also spoke out about all the rumors swirling around Foxx’s medical emergency on Molly Sims’ Lipstick on the Rim podcast.
She said she ‘really hate[s] all of the things that were being said about our set at the time.
Foxx and Diaz also star with Glenn Close in the film

‘You just want to scream at the top of your lungs, like, “What are you talking about?” Jamie is, like, the cheerleader for the entire crew. Everybody loves him. We have so much fun on the set with him, and he’s just a professional on every level,’ she said.
Back in Action also stars Kyle Chandler, Glenn Close, Andrew Scott, Jamie Demetriou, McKenna Roberts and Rylan Jackson.
Diaz retired from acting in 2014 after revealing the long hours of shooting made it too hard for her to balance family life. And while she’s made a return for Back in Action, she also plans to retire again after this film.
She shares two children – Raddix, four, and Cardinal, seven months with husband Benji Madden, 45.
