Jadon Sancho’s future at Manchester United is under the spotlight after his loan spell with Borussia Dortmund came to end following Saturday’s Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid
Jadon Sancho is ready to go back to Manchester United – but only if Erik ten Hag leaves this summer.
‌Sancho has been a huge success during his six-month loan spell back at Borussia Dortmund and the German club would like to sign him on a permanent basis. But Dortmund are faced with two major obstacles in United’s price is almost certain to be too expensive for them to make it happen as it will be in excess of £50million.
And England international Sancho, 24, is reluctant to give up on his United career and still has an ambition to make it work at Old Trafford. But there is also a realisation that Sancho will not have a future under current boss Ten Hag.
‌ Sancho was ostracised under Dutchman Ten Hag for a row over a social media post and then he refused to back down or apologise. Ten Hag has also made his feelings clear recently by claiming publicly that United have been pleased to see the winger do well at Dortmund because that will keep his valuation high.
‌That appeared to be shutting the door on any chance of Sancho going back to Old Trafford while Ten Hag remains in charge. Ten Hag is still waiting on his own future to be resolved with United carrying out an in-depth club review before deciding whether to stick with him or change managers.
Former Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel, Brentford’s Thomas Frank and Mauricio Pochettino are all seen as potential replacements. Sancho still harbours ambitions of playing at the very highest level and his performances in helping Dortmund reach the Champions League final have only served to underline his talent.
That is why Sancho is reluctant to give up on United even though he is wanted at Dortmund and adored by their fans. Sancho joined United from Dortmund for £73m in 2021 but the deal has yet to reap rich rewards and another loan deal could be an option even if the Germans cannot afford to keep him long term.

Dortmund boss Edin Terzic has gone on record as saying they want to keep Sancho. “I am really happy that he is with us,” Terzic said before Saturday’s crushing 2-0 defeat to Real Madrid in the final. “Playing in a final in his hometown, it’s a very special moment for him.
“You can feel the joy he receives and brings in the dressing room. I am very happy to work with Jadon. We don’t know yet what the future will bring. But for sure, it’s going to bring him another Champions League final.”
