Jadon Sancho back in Manchester United training after burying hatchet with Erik ten Hag

Must read

Jadon Sancho has returned to training with Manchester United after a truce was called in his rift with Erik ten Hag although there are no indications the England forward has apologised to his manager.

Ten Hag and Sancho are understood to have held a “positive” meeting at United’s Carrington training base this week with both player and manager agreeing to draw a line under their 10-month dispute and move on.

Sancho is understood to have reflected on past issues that saw him effectively accuse Ten Hag of lying over the reasons for his omission against Arsenal last September and has now resumed training with the squad but he is not thought to have gone as far as issuing a formal apology over the matter.

The 24-year-old will not travel to Norway for United’s friendly against Rosenberg on Monday having resumed training a few days later than his team-mates after being granted a slightly extended break due to his participation in the Champions League final with Borussia Dortmund last month.

Sancho joined Dortmund on loan in January after being exiled by Ten Hag, which included being forced to train and eat alone for four months before finally getting an escape route to Germany. Dortmund lost the Champions League final to Real Madrid.

Telegraph Sport understands United have canvassed some interest from other clubs in Sancho this summer, including Dortmund and Juventus, but they have not received any formal bids to date.

United value Sancho, who has two years to run on his £250,000-a-week contract, at around £40 million but it remains to be seen what happens over his future between now and the close of the transfer window on August 30.

Ten Hag’s side face Rangers at Murrayfield on Saturday week before travelling to the United States for the start of their pre-season tour with Sancho now available for selection again and the focus on the player taking a full part in preparations for the new campaign. United have games against Arsenal, Real Betis and Liverpool in America.

They are due to play Manchester City in the Community Shield on August 10 before kicking off the new season at home to Fulham six days later.

Joshua Zirkzee was undergoing a medical on Friday ahead of a proposed £35.8 million move to Old Trafford from Bologna. The Netherlands striker, 23, is due to sign a five-year contract with the option of another 12 months.

United are also in talks with Bayern Munich over a deal for the centre-half and Zirkzee’s 24-year-old Netherlands team-mate, Matthijs de Ligt.

Meanwhile, veteran Northern Ireland centre-back Jonny Evans, 36, has signed a 12-month contract extension with United to June 2025.
