Under the cover of darkness, troops from Israel’s 98th division — made up of elite paratroopers and commandos — began a ground invasion of Lebanon for the first time in nearly two decades.
In a statement posted on X at 2am local time on Tuesday, the IDF confirmed that troops had moved across the border following a build-up of tanks and other armour in northern Israel.
Israel’s military said that they were carrying out limited, localised, and targeted ground raids based on precise intelligence against Hezbollah terrorist targets and infrastructure in southern Lebanon.
