Ipswich agree deal for City striker Delap

Ipswich Town have agreed a deal with Manchester City to sign striker Liam Delap.

The newly-promoted side have agreed to pay an initial £15million ($19.2m) for Delap, with an additional £5m due in potential add-ons.

Delap is expected to undergo a medical on Wednesday with personal terms not anticipated to be an issue.

City have also agreed similar terms with Southampton but Delap has chosen to join Ipswich.

The 21-year-old spent last season on loan at Hull City in the Championship, registering eight goals in 32 appearances.

Delap, the son of former Stoke City midfielder Rory, came through the ranks at Derby County before joining City’s academy in 2019. He made six first-team appearances before heading out on loan to Stoke in the summer of 2022. Delap scored three goals in 22 appearances in the first half of the 2022-23 campaign before being recalled by City and sent on loan to fellow Championship side Preston North End, where he played 15 times and scored once.

Delap’s 2023-24 season was impacted by a knee injury sustained in January which kept him out for around four months. He returned to the Hull team in mid-April, making three substitute appearances and two starts to close out the season.

Delap is an England youth international and has made five appearances for the Under-21s since making his debut last year.
