Inside The BFC/Vogue Designer Fashion Fund’s Rooftop Party

Must read

Yesterday afternoon, British Vogue and the British Fashion Council assembled some of the nation’s most influential fashion names to celebrate the 2024 BFC/Vogue Designer Fashion Fund Award on the rooftop of 180 Soho House. The likes of Munroe Bergdorf, Alva Claire and Leomie Anderson were among the celebrities spirited eight floors into the London skyline to raise a toast to this year’s winners – the much-beloved Chopova Lowena – who convinced an esteemed panel of judges, including stylists Harry Lambert and Ib Kamara, to grant their business a £150,000 cash injection.

“We want to expand, rather than selling tonnes of units,” designers Emma Chopova and Laura Lowena said of their ethical approach to growth. “For us, it’s not so much about the money, but that amazing people think we’ve done enough – we want to keep doing this for a really long time.” As guests gathered poolside in a rare moment of London sunshine, talk soon turned to a Bulgarian-rose scented perfume that Chopova and Lowena have long been hoping they might be able to bring to fruition. “Our niche aesthetic,” they continued, “is applicable to a lot of cool, weird products.” Take, for example, co-hosts Maya Jama and Chioma Nnadi’s Chopova Lowena respective ensembles: a wedding-appropriate minidress and a shin-length kilt that embodied the brand’s tough, pretty and triumphant designs.
