If you’re keen to get away someplace warm this summer or winter, fear not, as there’s still plenty of time to get booking.

However, holidays can be a source of worry for many people due to how expensive they can be. Paying for flights, accommodation, food and everything else can cost thousands, and because of this, any savings are appreciated.

And according to one travel whizz, you can cut the costs of your holiday hotel stay simply by being a little more flexible and checking in on a certain day of the week – as it’s often cheaper than the rest.

Conor O’Neill, travel expert at money-saving community LatestDeals.co.uk, has lifted the lid on some common holiday-related rip-offs that are easily avoided if you know what to do instead. He’s offered some valuable advice which has helped him to save money in the past, and he’s keen to help others to do the same.

And one of the most simple – and effective – things you can do to save some cash is book your holiday to begin on a Sunday – as this is ‘often the cheapest’ night of the week.

Drawing on his own experiences, he said: “I booked a double room at Hotel Abitart in Rome for just £17 on a Sunday, compared to higher rates on other days. If your travel schedule is flexible, consider including a Sunday night in your stay to reduce costs.

“This is because most holiday trips leave on a Sunday, and start on either a Saturday or Monday. Sunday nights have the lowest occupancy rates, so hotels discount to try and fill it up.”

If you haven’t got a holiday booked yet but you still want to get away someplace warm, don’t worry – sometimes, waiting until the last minute can have real financial benefit, despite what many people might believe.
