Getting older has its perks – and one woman made it her mission to prove it.
Jacqueline Hooton, 61, from West Sussex, can lift up to double her own weight, and is on a mission to help other women feel strong. Even osteoarthritis can’t stop the personal trainer from proving that age is just a number, as long as you’re willing to put the work in.
She’s recently opened up about how she decided to embrace her grey hair, and focus on active ageing. Even though she’s a busy grandmother-of-three, she uses her downtime to smash weights and run marathons.

Jacqueline wants to show the world that you don’t have to slow down as you get older. She refuses to be stigmatised by society, and inspires people to live life to the full and stay fit.
In her latest Instagram post, she re-introduced herself to the people who may have only now come across her page, and she made some candid confessions in the process.
From describing her favourite workouts to embracing her silver locks – she revealed a lot about herself people may not know. Her honesty works to inspire many people.
Writing on Instagram, Jacqueline said: “I’m a personal trainer with over 25 years of experience. I work with 1:1 clients as well as health, lifestyle and fitness brands.
“I worked as a fitness tutor for 10 years. I love strength training, running and cycling. I’ve taken part in bodybuilding competitions as well as marathons.
“I embraced my grey hair several years ago. I have osteoarthritis, so you’ll often see me sharing modifications for joint issues. I have five grown up children, and three grandchildren.
“My favourite place is the beach where I live and catch sunrise most days. I’m an outdoor kind of person who loves nature as well as the gym. So you’ll see workouts from my garden, my garage gym, my personal training studio and occasionally from the local gym I belong to.
“My account here is all about active ageing and promoting the many ways we can support our health as we grow older. I promote a pro ageing attitude, and an age inclusive approach.”
Since she shared the post, over 5,600 people liked it, and her followers were quick to comment too. People told her she was their “inspiration”, and that her content inspires them to try new things and get fit.
One person said: “Absolutely love what you put up! ! I’m a mum of six, and I have three granddaughters. I’ve started doing more gym work now in my 50s than I’ve ever done in my life.
“Definitely can see a difference. Hoping to get stronger and fitter as our age. Thank you for sharing what you do!”
