I’m A Celeb’s Dean McCullough speaks out on ‘feud’ with Ant McPartlin after ‘proper telling off’ – and the moments cut from the show

I’m A Celeb’s Dean McCullough has spoken out on his ‘feud’ with Ant McPartlin after he revealed he got a ‘proper telling off’ after a BushTucker Trial.

The Radio One DJ, 32, who became the second star to be kicked out of the 2024 jungle, was voted for a staggering seven trials and used the breakfree words, ‘I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here’ more than once.

But despite his clearly nervous demeanor, Ant showed little sympathy after one of his trials where he dipped out early on, opting instead to give him a bit of ‘tough love’.

During his first interview since leaving the camp, Dean addressed his feud with GMB‘s Susanna Reid and Ed Balls.

He told the hosts: ‘When Ant was telling me off for saying “I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here,” I felt it was a proper telling off. I feel like he meant it.

‘So I did what I was told and I wanted to to win him back around,which I think I did in the end.’

Susanna prompted: ‘You did, that was interesting wasn’t it, he was a bit angsty with you, wasn’t he?’

Dean replied: ‘Yeah, I believe he was.

‘But it worked. It meant that I eventually got 10 stars home for camp and I got a handshake.’

Susanna added: ‘It was a bit of tough love from Ant McPartlin there.’

Dean also opened up on moments that were not broadcast on the show during that faithful trial, as he revealed that the set is very quiet and there are ‘so many rules’ to follow.

He told the hosts: ‘I wouldn’t say love, but you do actually get used to the tension.

‘What you don’t see on telly is that it’s very quiet, it’s all taken very, very seriously and there’s so many rules that you’ve got to remember and it’s tense. ‘I was the first one to get out and repeat these trials so over the week I actually got used to it.

‘Now the sand one, I could not have predicted that that was going to happen.

‘All I was told was to stand in the box with my hands on the perspex and I might be joined by things in the tomb, so yeah, I wasn’t expecting that at all.

‘But I would actually do it again, I would give it a go… Like anything you just keep doing it you get used to it, but I don’t think I would say I loved the trials.’

In November Ant admitted that he was ‘unprofessional’ during Dean McCullough’s previous Bushtucker trial, after fans clocked his ‘furious’ reaction to the DJ quitting the challenge yet again.

Viewers noticed that during the show, Ant was ‘lowkey mad’ at Dean for ‘not trying properly’ in his first two trials and so urged the radio host to ‘try harder’.

Ant later addressed his reaction during an appearance on spin-off I’m A Celebrity: Unpacked, saying: ‘My annoyance came across on screen and I was quite unprofessional. You get to the point where you’re like what are you doing?’

As Dean arrived at his third trial in three days, Ant and Dec ran through the rules of Lethal Lab, adding he will be joined by cockroaches, crickets and mealworms, giant lizards, snakes and spiders.

Ant said: ‘Now Dean, I want to have a word with you. What happened yesterday? No stars. What happened the day before? You said I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here. You can only change the narrative by stick with it and getting on with it.’

During the very stern chat, Dean said to Ant: ‘I feel like I’m being told off by Ant and Dec.’

Dec chipped in: ‘I’m good cop’, while Ant added: ‘He’s [Dec] very carrot and I’m very stick.’

‘Not Ant telling Dean off’, Ant can’t be arsed with Dean’, ‘Ant deffo hates Dean’, ‘ant is not holding back with dean’.

Dean called ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here’ half way through the trial after getting spooked from fish guts.

With spiders on his head, snakes around his neck, green ants on his arms and cockroaches around his head, it all became too much for Dean when fish guts smothered the back of his neck.

Dean had two minutes to complete an experiment, which would be worth two stars, in the experimentation area.

He then had to make his way through seven different containment areas, where a further eight stars were up for grabs.

Dean told Ant and Dec: ‘I like to overpromise and underdeliver.’

During the first experiment, he had to combine both a green liquid and a clear liquid into the test tube together to create a chemical reaction.

Half way through the trial, he said: ‘This is not looking good boys.’

As he successfully created a chemical reaction by combining the two liquids, he won two stars for camp and moved on to the containment areas.

After winning two more stars in containment areas one and three, he then moved onto area five.

As fish guts poured into the compartment, Dean immediately shouted: ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’

Talking to viewers after the trial aired, Ant said: ‘What the b***** h***, he only gets four stars and they pamper him. It’s not good is it, he literally got four out of ten!’

Ant also slammed Dean after the radio DJ failed to win any stars during his trial with GK Barry earlier that same week.

The duo took part in the Down In The Drumps trial as they were forced to face their fears while working together to secure meals for camp.

However the pair failed to win any stars, and Ant didn’t hold back as he vented his frustrations during the show’s spin off I’m A Celebrity Unpacked.

As host Joel Dommett began: ‘Let’s talk briefly about today’s trial,’ Ant interjected with: ‘Oh God.’

Letting his feelings be known he explained: ‘I got quite annoyed at one point because I am a bit like if you can’t do it you can’t do it, but just get on with it. Just try it, try it.

‘If it is physically impossible or you find it physically hard that’s fine, but at least try. There was a lot of not trying for quite a few minutes until they started to try and then they ran out of time.’

Sam Thompson then agreed as he added: ‘What you are saying as well is you are standing screaming at nothing at this point in time, like you are just getting rained on.’

Ant agreed: ‘Yeah you are screaming at water.’

During Dean’s trial last month he exclaimed ‘I’m a celebrity get me out of here’ after being submerged in a box of sand.

Referring to the previous trial, Sam joked: ‘It really makes me think like Dean, sand and water, what is it like when he goes to the beach?

‘I have never seen scream so much without touching anything.’

Letting his feelings be known he explained: 'I got quite annoyed at one point because I am a bit like if you can't do it you can't do it, but just get on with it. Just try it, try it'

Meanwhile the host also admitted to MailOnline: ‘A lot of people appear frustrated at Dean, well as frustrated as I was but I felt I held it together pretty well. We miss Tony Bellew, he would have smashed that trial.’

And fans caught on to Ant’s frustrations as they took to Twitter writing: ‘That last bit on ITV2 is honest. They don’t like Dean. Ant was fuming’;

‘Ant and Dec are getting so annoyed with Dean now’; ‘I get the feeling Ant and Dec are as bored of Dean as we are’;

‘Ant and Dec are properly getting p***** off with Dean. At least GK is making an effort…’; ‘Ant and Dec genuinely seem so done with Dean at this point’;
