A recently eliminated contestant of I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! is going home to a concerning situation after his son shared a post from the hospital.
Barry McGuigan’s 36-year-old son Shane McGuigan, who has previously dated his dad’s camp buddy, Maura Higgins, posted on Instagram this weekend, telling fans he has been admitted to the hospital.
Sharing a picture from his hospital bed in which he appeared to have an IV drip in his arm, the star told his 85,000 followers: ‘It’s 1 thing after another atm [at the moment]’.
Shane, a professional boxing coach, did not disclose any further information on why he had been admitted or what other challenging situations he has been dealing with recently. However, the family lost their beloved dog, Titan, in October.
The athlete wrote on his social media at the time: ‘An extremely sad day yesterday. We had to say goodbye to my little side kick of 10 years, Titan.’ He added: ‘Words can’t describe how much of a legend he was!’
While it’s unclear if Barry, 63, rushed to his son’s side following his and Maura’s, 34, elimination on Thursday night, Shane is likely being supported by his fiance, musician Taylor West, and their two children, Finley and Caelan.
Shane appeared on Good Morning Britain last month to discuss his dad and ex-girlfriend’s stint on the show, admitting their small-town Irish roots could mean they get along well on the show.
‘They both reached big fame they wouldn’t have been able to comprehend as kids growing up in their small towns. So could be similarities there as well.’
Shane and Maura began dating in 2018 when Maura worked as a ring girl at a boxing match he was commentating. However, their romance was short-lived, and they called things off soon after due to their busy schedules.
Barry and Maura’s elimination came as a shock to viewers of the hit ITV show earlier this week.
Speaking in his exit interview with the Geordie duo, Barry said he was ‘gutted’ to have missed out on Celebrity Cyclone.
‘I’m kinda disappointed,’ he said. ‘But I’ve had an incredible time.’
Continuing to talk about his Jungle stint and whether it was anything like what he expected, the sportsman said it was ‘much tougher’ than he could’ve anticipated.
He added: ‘What I found most difficult was the food. Not having food, not having any condiments, salt, pepper… you take these things for granted.’
Barry also spoke about his special bond with pop star Danny Jones, which has been a highlight of the season for viewers and caused a warming in their hearts due to its sweetness.
‘All my kids are around the same age as him, so I can relate to him, and he’s just such a lovely, great guy,’ he said in his exit interview.
Barry also predicted that Danny, who has hailed him as a father figure, will go on to win the show, with the next King or Queen of the Jungle being crowned.
After Oti Mabuse was sent home last night, Danny now has to beat Coleen Rooney and Reverend Richard Cole to secure his win in tonight’s finale after almost one month in the jungle.
