I’m a Celeb: Maura Higgins and Richard Coles join the camp and Coleen opens up about Wayne’s ‘mistakes’

“All he wanted to do was play football, he struggled with the fame side of it, he hated that. If he could’ve just played football and had none of the fame I think he would’ve been happier within life,” explained Coleen.

“He’s made mistakes along the way, but from 16, obviously you’re going to, that’s life.

“We felt older, because we had to grow up quickly, because we were living in the public eye.

“Since the first mistake he’s made, that’s been in the public, people have not forgiven. When things have happened the public have wanted it to just go oh, split, you know, that’s it, split them up. But the fact is, there’s always been love still there.

“It has been difficult, but we’re happy now, after all those years… we’re a team.”

Speaking to TikTok star GK Barry later on, she revealed: “Wayne’s always wrote me poems.”

“You know the hotel pads? He was always writing a little poem and putting it in his bag and he’d give it to me when we got home,” Coleen said.

Thursday night’s episode also saw the arrival of two new campmates, former Love Island star Maura Higgins and television personality Reverend Richard Coles.

However, the newbies weren’t treated to proper camp life, as they made their way down to the ‘Jungle Junkyard’.

“It’s not liveable, we have nothing, this camp sucks,” said Maura upon arrival.

“I’m going to ask Richard to say a prayer for us tonight, because I’m gonna need one.”

However, their secret mission was soon revealed by hosts Ant and Dec, who actually revealed the pair are tasked with convincing their other campmates of their dire situation in order to win a bed for the night.

Elsewhere Barry McGuigan made some waves in Thursday’s night episode of I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here as the former world champion boxer stripped down to his underwear to brace the jungle shower.

The former featherweight boxer was seen deciding to brave the freezing cold jungle shower, stripping down to a pair of black budgie smugglers in the opening of the show, but soon was warmed up by fellow NI man and Radio 1 DJ Dean McCullough’s hidden contraband of tea bags after his secret was made public to the camp.

When the ‘hot water’ was served, the dark colour in the mugs confused the campmates and a befuddled Barry questioned, “Why are they dark?”

Coronation Street star Alan Halsall then joked, “We got a bit of mud in the kettle, but if you try it, it’s not too bad.”

However, the contraband appeared to be the least of the camp’s concerns, after tonight’s episode also saw Dean shout ‘I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here’ yet again after winning only 4 stars for camp.

He won’t have much time to recover though, as Dean will face the next trial alongside McFly singer Danny Jones.
