The European versions of the Samsung Galaxy S25 trio visited the FCC last week and the details confirmed that the trio will have wireless charging – but it didn’t specify which kind. Same as before? Perhaps not, as Ice Universe has reportedly revealed that the S25 models will support Qi2 charging, as relayed by Jukanlosreve.
However, that by itself doesn’t say much. As we’ve noted in the past, there are two Qi2 profiles – Extended Power Profile (15W, no magnets) and Magnetic Power Profile (still 15W, but with magnets for alignment and attachment). The first Android phone with Qi2 MPP is already here, the HMD Skyline.
But there is another wrinkle to consider – Oppo has a series of “Oppo Mag” accessories that use magnets, but they are centered around cases with embedded magnets. The phones themselves don’t have magnets. The OnePlus 13 also supports Mag accessories with a special case, which is not Qi2 compatible. Instead, it uses a proprietary standard called “MagVOOC”.
So, what does Samsung have in store for the Galaxy S25 series? True Qi2 MPP compatibility? Something with magnetic cases? Or will it skip magnets altogether?
