I love a good B&M bargain so I was pleased to see a large new store opening. Debenhams at Weaver’s Wharf in Kidderminster had been empty since before the retail giant closed back in 2021.
This is a picturesque building as it’s part of the old Slingfield Mill and is multi-storey, made of old brickwork, arched windows and a chimney stack. The new 30,000 sq foot discount store has joined M&S, Next, TK Maxx, Boots, Sports Direct and New Look at the shopping park.
I decided to go and have a look to see if it was worth a visit. Rows of plants and hanging baskets line the outside of the glass-fronted store. The exposed brickwork continues throughout the store, which makes it feel a little more classy than your average B&M. Perhaps, in some ways, it might have been nicer to have had a fancier store in this building but, with the current cost of living, a discount store is probably more in line with what shoppers want.

There were several aisles packed full of discounted food and drink, including a small refrigerated area. End-of-aisle special deals included L’Oreal Age Perfect, which was just £7.99 for 50ml and L’Oreal Hyaluron Expert for just £4.99 for 50ml, which seemed like good value.
You could also pick up Elle straighteners for just £11.99 and giant TIGI Bed Head bottles of shampoo and conditioner for just £7.49 for 750ml. In the electricals aisle, there was a 3-tier steamer reduced from £22 to £20 and a Goodmans Rapid Air Fryer for £39 which at 4.2 litres was big enough for a family. There were also slow cookers for £20.
The storage and organisational section filled the back corner, with tubs, pots, drawers and dividers aplenty. It was, however, the escalator upstairs that was appealing as the sign called to me, saying there was more bedding, bathroom, home décor, toys, stationery, cushions and throws, furniture and garden products above. So, up I went.
And it was here that I found the best bargains. There was a kids sun-shaded paddling pool for just £12 and garden bunting for £1.50. However, it was the clearance section that drew me in because I was surprised to find that a pretty pastel range of plastic garden glasses, bowls, plates and serving dishes had been reduced. Most of them were down to just 50p.
There was even a cute patio tablecloth reduced from £4 to £2 that I thought would be just the job to keep my rather-tatty looking garden table going for another summer. There were even carafes with lids and plastic ice cubes too. These for £4 but were reduced to just £2.
You could also get half price wine cooler sleeves for just £1.50 that matched the stripy tablecloth. It seemed strange that so many key summer items were on offer just as the sun was starting to shine but it was great for customers.
The only downside of the store is that there’s no outside gardening section and that you have to pay £1.40 an hour to park here. It is, however, convenient if you’re visiting the other stores on Weaver’s Wharf. B&M also has a store on the Kidderminster Industrial Estate on Spennells Valley Road, where you can park for free.
