When it comes to table decorations Brin Pirathapan has the one that any home cook would kill for. I’m in the modest dining room of his Bristol flat and before us sits the MasterChef 2024 trophy.
Pirathapan won it in a tense final, which aired on television on May 22 but was filmed just before Christmas. Having removed its bubble wrap, he lets me pick up the trophy. It’s heavy but not solid silver as I imagined. This is the BBC after all. No matter, his eyes glitter with obvious emotion.
“At first I couldn’t believe I was on the show at all but to be crowned the winner, it is just another level of incredible,” he says, beaming.
