A young woman was left fearing for her life after an adverse allergic reaction to lip filler dissolver left her gasping for air.
Shaunna Harris, 24, from Bridgend, Wales, was rushed to A&E for medical assistance after her face ballooned within minutes after having her lip filler dissolved.
The radiographer had previously had her lips injected twice before opting to get her plump pout dissolved last January.
But mere moments after having the dissolver injected hives began to emerge across her eyes.
‘I thought I was going to die. I thought if my throat closed up anymore I would die. I was gasping for air,’ Shaunna said.

The young radiographer assumed the procedure would be fine as she previously had lip fillers injected into her pout twice
The unbelievable images and video show how much the young woman’s face had ballooned before returning to normal a whole week later.
When her aesthetician noticed how severe her reaction to the dissolvent was, Shaunna raced to hospital where she had adrenaline administered and was placed on a drip.
Before having the treatment, Shaunna was calm as her lip filler procedures had all been fine in the past.
‘I’d had 0.5ml when I was 18 then when I was 22 I had 1ml. That 1ml never dissolved, it just migrated,’ she explained.
‘So I decided to get the filler that had migrated dissolved and get another 1ml put back in.’
However, the 24-year-old knew something was awry as soon as the dissolver was injected into her pout.
‘Straight away I knew something wasn’t right,’ she said.
‘I asked the aesthetician if it was normal and she said, “Yeah people’s lips do tend to swell up,” but it didn’t look normal.
‘Then I started to get hives all over my eyelids in the next five minutes, which were really itchy and painful.
Within only ten minutes, Shaunna’s face was completely swollen and she struggled to even see out of her eyes.
‘My face was completely blown up and swollen so [the aesthetician] took my car and drove me to A&E. I looked unrecognisable.’
Following a 20-minute trip to the Princess of Wales Hospital in Bridgend, Shauna was left struggling to breathe – and was on the verge of fainting.
However only ten minutes after having the dissolvent administered she was left with hives everywhere, struggling to see, gasping for air and on the verge of fainting
She revealed that she did not go out for days after the incident as she feared her face would not return to normal (pictured: Shaunna in hospital)
Explaining that concerned medics treated her straight away, she added: ‘My body was covered in hives.
‘I felt like my skin was burning. As soon as I got in, I couldn’t breathe. I couldn’t answer their questions because I couldn’t breathe. All the nurses were worried’
After the adrenaline was administered, Shaunna revealed that she was concerned her face would not return to normal and avoid going outside.
‘When they gave me the adrenaline, it opened up my airways and my breathing improved,’ she said.
‘But my face was swollen for days after. I was really worried my face wouldn’t go down. I didn’t go out of the house for three days.’
