Shopping as a plus-sized woman can be difficult, particularly if you are a clothing size that isn’t carried in most stores.

But one woman took it upon herself to make a change for the fuller-figured fashionistas out there. Kayla Jane Ross opened her store Indie Jane Boutique, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, back in 2018.

Since then, her business has gone from strength to strength, offering her curvy clientele a more comfortable shopping experience. But it doesn’t go smoothly every time.

Kayla claims that every now and again she will greet a customer at the door and receive the most ‘unhinged’ and sometimes judgemental responses. In a video, which has gained more than 20,000 likes, she said: “You would not believe some of the things customers say when they come into our store… Here are some unhinged things customers have said to us recently.”

She claimed one customer asked: “Oh, so this store is for heavyset girls like yourself?” Another commented that the outfits were “pricier because of the extra material”.

Kayla told a third that they were in an “exclusively plus size boutique”. Kayla added: “She said okay. She looked around for about five minutes and she said, where’s the size? Small.”

“I said, we don’t carry the size small, we only carry plus sizes. And she said, ‘well, good luck with that.’.” Finally, she explained that a customer had pointed out an outfit and said it was the “ugliest dress she’d ever seen” but it was the same dress the business owner was wearing at the time.

She later added in the caption: “I mean I can’t with people most days. Customer service is a trip.”
