Hundreds pack out Stevenson Square as flares let off ahead of Euro final

Hundreds of football fans have packed out Stevenson Square in the city centre ahead of England’s Euro 2024 final match against Spain.

Red smoke flares have been let off into the sky as huge crowds were seen chanting and jumping in excitement ahead of the match, which kicks off at 8pm in Berlin, Germany.




Hundreds in high spirits gathered at around 4pm and blocked the area, in the Northern Quarter, as anticipation for the game built. Fans were also seen burning Spanish flags to the popular ‘sparked a fire’ chant.

Several MEN reporters will be based around Greater Manchester throughout the evening as England look to win a first trophy since 1966 with victory over Spain in the final of the European Championships.

Gareth Southgate’s side are one step away from lifting the trophy, with the Three Lions taking part in their first ever final on foreign soil.

England reached the Berlin final with a 2-1 victory against the Netherlands in Dortmund on Wednesday. Spain, meanwhile, booked their place in the final the previous evening beating France 2-1.

Tonight’s clash kicks off at 8pm UK time at the Olympiastadion in Berlin, with tens of thousands of England fans having travelled to Germany.
