Hundreds of BA flights grounded by engine parts shortage

Hundreds of long-haul British Airways flights are being cancelled because of problems obtaining engine parts.

The company has axed flights in response to supply-chain difficulties with parts for the Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 engines fitted to the company’s Boeing 787 Dreamliners. Sources said that six aircraft had been grounded, about 15 per cent of the Dreamliner fleet.

The airline said that it was delaying from next month until April the start of a Heathrow to Kuala Lumpur route. It is also suspending the daily flight from Gatwick to New York’s JFK airport from December 12 until the end of March.

A source said BA was also “making a number of other flight cancellations between now and January to some of our long-haul routes”.
