A four-year-old California boy who wandered away from a campground in the Sierra National Forest was miraculously found safe after spending 22 hours alone in the wilderness.

Christian Ramirez was found in good condition around 8am on Friday, ‘nestled under a tree’ near a lake about a quarter mile from the Rancheria Campground where his family had been staying, authorities have confirmed.

Photos and videos capture the heartwarming moment Christian was rescued and carried to safety.

The images show officers and volunteers embracing the child and providing him with food and water as he reunites with his family. 

‘He was hungry and exhausted, but otherwise in good health. We got him a sandwich and then carried him out to be reunited with Mom and Dad,’ the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office released a statement on Facebook Friday.

A massive search-and-rescue operation involving around 50 officers and volunteers began at 11 am on Thursday after Christian was reported missing from the campsite surrounded by dense forest north of Fresno.

Christian, from Torrance near Los Angeles, was last seen wearing shorts and a T-shirt, according to the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office. 

He was found a quarter mile away, nestled under a tree. 

He was reportedly hungry and exhausted but otherwise in good health. 

The rescue team gave him a sandwich and then carried him out to be reunited with his family. 

The sheriff’s office expressed gratitude  to the rescue team and to members of the public who volunteered to join the search.

‘This was an amazing show of teamwork and dedication. There were more than 50 deputies and volunteers who combined to participate in this search.’

‘This included members of other law enforcement agencies who assisted us, working non-stop throughout the night.’

‘The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office would also like to thank the community. Many people offered to help join the search, kept their eyes peeled, spread the word on social media and sent prayers up. All of this undoubtedly helped to bring Christian home safely.’
