Huge Amazon upgrade may convince you to ditch your Kindle and try something new

Must read

There’s a whole bunch of new Kindle e-readers coming to UK stores with Amazon already launching its new entry-level model which gets a colourful Macha green makeover and brighter display. There’s also an upgrade to the premium Scribe coming in December and the launch of an all-new Colorsoft which is Amazon’s first e-reader to get a colour screen – that model is out next month.

If you can’t wait that long and want something a little more powerful than the basic Kindle there’s good news with an all-new Paperwhite going on sale later this week. Since the original launched all the way back in 2021, Amazon’s Paperwhite has officially become its best-selling e-reader and this book-browsing device is now even better.

The 2024 update offers more power with Amazon promising this latest model is its “fastest yet”. That means 25 percent quicker page turns and more fluid browsing when heading to your Kindle Library or Amazon Store.

It gets a bigger 7-inch display and includes the highest contrast ratio of any Kindle – which should improve the text when reading those best sellers or autobiographies.

Amazon is also boasting that this the thinnest Paperwhite ever – it still lasts for three months on a single charge and is fully waterproof so don’t worry if you enjoy a book in the bath.

As standard it comes with 16GB of storage but you can upgrade to the Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition, which comes with 32 GB of storage, optional wireless charging, and auto-adjusting front light.

Prices start from £159.99 but that cost can be reduced by 20 percent when handing over your old Kindle device and using Amazon’s trade-in scheme.

“Customers continue to love Kindle, and are reading on their devices more than ever—sales last year hit a decade high with the majority of purchases going to first time Kindle device owners,” said Kevin Keith, vice president of Amazon Devices. “We are excited to bring our customers a completely new Kindle lineup, including our first color Kindle and a re-imagined Kindle Scribe with even better in-book writing experiences and a more powerful notebook with generative AI built-in.”
