Millions of drivers face having to pay an extra £100 when they come to renew their car insurance as prices go up across the board.
The average quote for a fully comprehensive policy was £850 last month, up 18 per cent from £718 in May 2023, according to the consumer site Compare the Market.
While premiums have fallen slightly since their peak of £951 in November, they remain much higher than they were before they started rising rapidly in January 2023. In May 2022 the average quote for a fully comprehensive policy was £540.
