Holidaymakers travelling to Greece issued with warning

A warning has been issued for those travelling to Greece as the country experiences high temperatures.

With summer in full swing, many families are preparing for their holidays. Popular destination Greece is experiencing its first heatwave of the summer, reports the Liverpool Echo.




Greek’s weather service has issued an excessive heat warning, which is effective until 8pm on Thursday, June 13. Temperatures are predicted to soar up to 43C during this period.

The sweltering heat has led to school closures in parts of Athens. Tourist attraction, the Acropolis, was shut between 9am to 2pm on Wednesday due to life-threatening temperatures. The soaring temperatures are reportedly due to southerly winds carrying hot air from North Africa.
