HMRC has broken its silence over how to change tax codes. The government tax department spoke out on social media amid frantic reports after people were wrongly taxed for working TWO JOBS – when they only actually have one.
“How do i change my tax code? It’s the code as if I have two jobs, I don’t I have my P45 and I’ve just been way overtaxed,” a Twitter, now X user, wrote. They continued: “I need the money back ASAP but i work 7.30am to 6.30pm every day so I cannot ring.
“Please advise on what to do to get this sorted ASAP.” HMRC responded: “Hi Sophie, do you have a Personal Tax Account? Thanks, Sofia.” After the taxpayer said “yes,” HMRC said: “Thanks. If you log in what tax code is shown? Sofia”

Sofia” The taxpayer said: “hi, i did this, and they’ve changed my tax code but still think i have 2 jobs. i have one job .. it says on there ‘employment ended since 5 april 2024’ but still given me a tax code of 234LX, and my current jobs new tax code is 1022TX. how do i change this so i only have ONE job.”
