The Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC) has exchanged views on upholding sports integrity and fighting illegal gambling with the delegation of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).
The Club officials briefed Ghada Fathi Waly, the executive director of UNODC and the delegation on Wednesday (May 22) on the nature and scale of illegal gambling in Hong Kong. They also explained how the Club supports for the Asian Racing Federation’s Council in combating illegal gambling across the region.Â
The delegation also paid a visit to Happy Valley Racecourse.Â
Waly praised HKJC for implementing important procedures to safeguard sport from corruption and added that UNODC is committed to working with the Club to ensure sport remains a pillar of fairness and integrity.
Andrew Harding, Club Executive Director, Racing, said the Club was very encouraged by the support from UNODC, adding that the visit not only strengthens the ties between the two parties but also reinforces their commitment to fighting corruption and illegal gambling.
