High street retailer’s £30 trainers that rival Adidas Sambas

Must read

It’s no secret that the Adidas Samba OG is the cool girl footwear of 2024, adorning the feet of fashion editors, influencers and celebrities alike. However, at £90 a pair, some shoppers may be put off by their price tag.

But fear not, because our fashion experts have found a high street pair of casual trainers that could get you a similar look for less. Affordable fashion retailer Stradivarius has launched a pair of retro trainers for £29.99, and from certain angles, they could be mistaken for the iconic Adidas trainer.

Designed in a running style, the trainers boast a white colourway with black detailing, albeit missing the recognisable three stripes. But what they do have is a t-toe construction at the front of the shoe, in a light grey material, which is strikingly similar to the higher end pair. Looking down at your feet while wearing a pair of jeans, it could be difficult to tell the difference.

Understandably, the Stradivarius pair of trainers won’t be quite as premium as Adidas’ offering, least not for their trainer being made of a combination of faux leather materials, compared to Adidas’ durable leather and suede footwear.

But with a lace-up fastening, lightweight design and stylish appearance, they could be an affordable alternative to splashing out on the Adidas trainers if you wanted to try out the trend before investing. On the other hand, it could be a case that you’ve already got a pair of Sambas, but want a pair you don’t mind getting a little worn out over the summer.

While for some the Stradivarius pair will suffice for the summer trend, others may still want to invest in the timeless appeal of the heritage brand. Developed in 1949 to help football players play on icy surfaces, the Adidas Samba trainer has become a fashion thoroughbred, becoming as iconic as it is difficult to get your mitts on.

The beloved trainer, popular among celebrities and fashion icons like Harry Styles, the Gallagher brothers and Bella Hadid, is just about the most wearable, versatile and comfortable trainer to wear for any occasion. They look as good with dresses and skirts as they do with jeans giving an effortless but put-together overall look.

There are plenty of places you can find them online, including JD, ASOS and the Adidas website, where they’re all £90. Wynsors also has some men’s sizes in stock for £75. Elsewhere though, John Lewis’ Felixe Leather Two Tone Vulcanised Trainers come in at £69 and are a cheaper alternative to the Adidas brand.

But, if you want to achieve that cool girl look on a budget this year, Stradivarius’ casual retro design cost £29.99, and are currently available in sizes 2-8.
