Helldivers 2 players say the developers are “incompetent” following the Escalation of Freedom update

Helldivers 2 recently saw its largest updates to date with the Escalation of Freedom update, bringing new planets, enemies, difficulty settings, and more. Despite these new changes, the has been receiving a lot of backlash from players.

U/Gn0meKr took to the Helldivers 2 sub-Reddit to express their disappointment following the nerfs made as part of the recent Escalation of Freedom update, with them calling the developers “incompetent,” saying,

“I am starting to believe that entire balancing team wants to silently kill this game and any fun from playing it.”

This comes after the recent update saw the Flamethrower and Breaker Incendiary Shotgun were both nerfed just days before the fire-themed Freedom’s Flame Warbond, which doesn’t make much sense. Players are already frustrated that Arrowhead Game Studios has seemingly gone back on their word to not just nerf weapons because they are good and people are using them.

Other players also took to the replies, including u/DaveSpectre122 who said that they “understand that they want to make higher difficulties challenging. But having useless gear is not the way. I feel like except for that one cool balance patch when they said they were listening to the community it is still going the same, nerfing any actually viable option.”

They then finished off their reply by saying ‘I genuinely feel sad when I see the patch notes, because the game gets less fun. And it is not really difficult to make underperforming stratagems and weapons viable, unique and fun. If they gave me two days I think I could find ideas how to balance them better, while having very little experience and I am confident that the community would love it.”

It is disappointing to see the Escalation of Freedom update receive so much backlash, coupled with the Anti-Tank Mines, although at the same time it’s not too surprising. Hopefully the Freedom’s Flame Warbond will bring help to balance things out with new fire-themed weapons that could justify why the current fire weapons were nerfed.
