The original Helldivers game featured three enemy factions, the Cyborgs, which are now the Automatons, Terminids, and The Illuminate. So far, only the Automatons and Terminids have been part of the current Galactic War, but we do know that The Illuminate will be making an appearance eventually. That day could be getting closer as recently in-game screenshots have begun to surface online showing what the third faction will look like.

Helldivers 2 leaker IronS1ghts recently took to Reddit to reveal in-game screenshots of the ‘Tripod’ Sentinel enemy, giving us a look at what The Illuminate will look like when they eventually join the Galactic War. In the screenshots, we see the alien with three long legs attached to a body with a single eye on it.

According to the leak, the Sentinel’s “eye fires a beam that has 3 separate firing modes, Horizontal, Vertical, and Erratic. You can disable the beam ability by breaking the Sentinel’s eye, to which it will start arcing electricity.” IronS1ghts also noted that “Their walking animation is pretty weird in game, very fluid.”

Recent leaks also gave us a look at other enemies, including the Observer and an enemy called ‘Guy.’ With these in-game leaks starting to surface, it does seem that we could be set to encounter The Illuminate sooner rather than later as the character models and animations are in the files. So far, Arrowhead Game Studios hasn’t publicly acknowledged that The Illuminate will be coming to Helldivers 2, however, they have been mentioned by officers on your ship, but this is usually referring to the past Galactic War that took place 100 years before the events of this game.

Despite there being in-game leaks of The Illuminate, it will likely be a while before we see them, especially as Arrowhead Game Studios is currently working to fix many of the issues from the Escalation of Freedom update. After receiving backlash for the changes, the developers released a 60-day roadmap to reverse many of the changes made and lay out a plan to ensure future updates aren’t met with such a negative reception. Some of the main complaints were related to nerfs, which has led to the meta being shaken up, but not in a good way. This has led to some players taking it upon themselves to figure out balancing changes that should be made. With the nerfs shaking things up, now is a good time to take a look at your current loadout. To help with that, we highly recommend checking out our Helldivers 2 best weapons guide and best armor guide.
