With the arrival of The Illuminate constantly leaked in Helldivers 2 files, it’s worth looking back at old scrapped files hidden in earlier versions of the game. After all, just because new Illuminate mission objects have been discovered, that doesn’t mean they’re going to be included in the game.
In older releases of Helldivers 2, Arrowhead included numerous files that teased missions set in a Super Earth city. While this biome could come back in a future update, these scrapped assets tease a terrifying prospect for axed missions.
Helldivers 2 missions on Super Earth
Shared by verified leaker AsunderKnight, Super Earth city assets were once included in a build of Arrowhead’s multiplayer game. Found in an old build dated February 23, 2024, numerous assets for a proper Earth biome were included in the game.
For example, Arrowhead created a huge 3D model for the Capital Tower of Super Earth alongside a massive plaque commemorating fallen soldiers. While there’s no notes on where this model could’ve been used — for example, it might’ve been for real-time cutscenes instead of the in-game pre-rendered one — it has led many fans to continue their begging for urban combat.
While Arrowhead is constantly addressing fan requests, such as huge PvE missions and missions that combine bugs and bots, urban combat has always been at the top of the list of requests.
With the Automatons and Termanids constantly invading planets, the prospect of fighting the alien threats amidst an urban environment with destructible buildings is instantly exciting. Think Earth Defense Force but with Helldivers 2 combat. Sublime.
However, with “engine limitations” in the way, at least until the studio’s next game on Unreal Engine, it might not be feasible for the studio to make sprawling cityscapes for players to battle through.
Nevertheless, Arrowhead is still working on more exciting content for its brilliant multiplayer game. Alongside the eventual arrival of The Illuminate, whenever that may be, scary new Automatron enemies are on the way alongside new Warbonds and more.
Now that the Democracy Space Station is live, although the leaked Clans system is not, eyes are peeled on whatever is coming next to the epic multiplayer game.
