Helldivers 2 may have seen one of the biggest falls from grace as millions of players have abandoned the game due to reactionary updates and failure to address major issues that are plaguing the game. Many games see their shares of good and bad times, with Palworld being another example that has gone from over two million concurrent players to just 30,000. The difference is that Palworld declined due to no new content, which is understandable and frequently seen. When it comes to Helldivers 2, players are eager to jump into the game but have become jaded by the decisions made by the developers, leading to the lowest play count ever seen in the game’s history.

According to Steamdb, Helldivers 2 has reached its lowest player count ever, regularly dropping to below 10,000 concurrent players during its lowest points of the day. Over the past week, this has been the case for all but one day when the player count managed just to scrape above 10,000.

But, today has seen Helldivers 2 hit a new all-time low, at its lowest point saw just 7,495 players taking part in the Galactic War. Based on the typical split between PS5 and PC, this likely meant that the total player count across both platforms would have been around 11,000-12,000 concurrent players.

This comes just weeks after the release of the Escalation of Freedom update earlier this month, which brought Helldivers 2 into Arc 2. But, with issues such as weapon nerfs and performance issues still being present, it seems that more players are giving up and moving on, despite the commitment of a 60-day roadmap to improve the game.

Despite the low player count, it is unlikely that Arrowhead Game Studios is too worried, as many live-service games go through ups and downs as players move on to experience other games on the market or focus on life outside of gaming. If the 60-day roadmap proves to be a success, it will likely be the start of bringing many players back, so all eyes will be on Arrowhead over the next two months to see whether they can pull it off.

Understandably, many Helldivers 2 players are skeptical due to previous updates often going back on what the developers had said when it comes to addressing issues in the game. Hopefully, they will be able to turn things around as it is one of the most enjoyable games of recent times and a fresh spin on the genre.

But for now, players are eagerly anticipating the next update, which should be right around the corner, that is set to focus on buffing many of the weapons that have been nerfed into the ground in recent months. One of the biggest victims of these nerfs is the Breaker Incendiary Shotgun, which was nerfed due to it being too popular according to the Arrowhead CEO. It will be interesting to see whether this is one of the weapons that receives a buff with the next patch.
