The third season of Netflix’s hit teen drama Heartstopper landed two days ago, already earning itself a perfect 100% Rotten Tomatoes score.

The coming-of-age romantic comedy-drama, written and created by Alice Oseman – and based on her webcomic and graphic novel of the same name – first premiered in 2022, and returned for a second series last year.

The series has won critical acclaim for its portrayal of LBTQ+ people and themes, and gained almost instant popularity – charting among the top 10 most watched shows on Netflix within two days of its release.

The show’s third series continues to follow Charlie Spring (Joe Locke) and Nick Nelson (Kit Connor) as they navigate school life and young love.

And with Charlie still struggling to admit the extent of his feelings to Nick – the ‘L’ word proving elusive – the pair’s relationship is set for some of its biggest challenges yet.

Meanwhile, the verdict is in, and season three is already proving a hit with critics and audiences alike.

As of today (Saturday, October 10), Heartstopper season three retains a perfect 100% Tomatometer score on Rotten Tomatoes, with 18 reviews raving over its ‘ooey gooey goodness’ and ‘wholesome’ storytelling.

The audience’s reaction has been no less adoring, with the show earning a 96% Popcornmeter rating from over 250 ratings.

‘This coming of age story between Nick and Charlie is so wholesome, hopeful, and full of love. Their story is so endearing and I wished I had this type of media while I was growing up!’ said Rotten Tomatoes user Edward M, awarding it five stars.

‘It really not only stopped everyone’s heart but also stole it. The mesmerizing visuals, exquisite performance and too much love with care and affection is what makes this series so special,’ said Raj A.

‘I’m speechless. The new season, once again, delivers a lot of sensitivity, fun and important themes, with a language which everyone can access the information. Heartstopper it’s my favorite series of all time. We, from the LGBTQIA+ community, need more of it and this. Absolutely must-see!’ wrote Yuri B.

Meanwhile, star Kit Connor, 20, has revealed how filming the show’s third season left his screen boyfriend suffering with ‘scabs’ all over his chin – from all of the kissing.

‘We shot the sexy stuff for seven hours, which, you know, that’ll do it,’ Kit revealed to GQ Hype. ‘We were both just knackered.

‘Joe developed this huge scab on his chin—’ he continued. Joe, 21, then chimed in and described his set injury as ‘horrible.’

Don’t they grow up so fast? (Picture: Netflix)

This was due to the young men both developing stubble since the last season filmed – making things a bit scratchier for both of them.

Growth spurts and sprouting stubble isn’t the only thing that the teenagers have to contend with – as Charlie’s mental health becomes a focus of the new season.

Heartstopper is available to stream on Netflix now.
