The vase wasn’t behind any glass because the museum says there is “special charm” in showing archaeological finds “without obstructions”.

The Hecht Museum have invited the child and their family back to the museum for a tour and say they’ll continue to display items without a glass barrier.

The boy’s father, Alex, said they will feel “relieved” to see the jar restored but was “sorry” because “it will no longer be the same item”.

The jar was once most likely used to carry local supplies like wine and olive oil.

Similar items of pottery found during archaeological digs are usually broken or incomplete when unearthed, making this intact jar “an impressive find” when it was discovered, the museum added.
