Private Eye editor Ian Hislop was struck by an electric bike in London yesterday afternoon, requiring medical attention for a head injury.

The 64-year-old Have I Got News For You star was left needing treatment following the collision, which occurred while he was crossing the road.

The incident left the veteran journalist and satirist with a visible head bandage, though he was able to attend a London event later that evening.

Despite his injury, Hislop was spotted at a social gathering in London last night, dressed smartly in a black tuxedo and bow tie, accompanied by his wife.

A large white bandage was visible on the back of his head during the evening appearance.

A spokesman for Private Eye magazine confirmed the incident, stating he was “hit by an electric bike whilst crossing the road yesterday afternoon”.

In October, Hislop was involved in a frightening incident when glass showered over him in a taxi during morning rush hour in Soho.

The cab driver reported hearing a noise similar to something striking the window while stationary in traffic on Dean Street.

Though initially feared to be a shooting, police investigations found no evidence that a gun had been fired.

According to the Daily Mail, a local worker explained: “I just saw the taxi in the street – it was parked just up there. My colleague spotted it – all of the window at the back was smashed in, just a little black cab.

“I think I saw it at about 10.30am – with all the police alongside.”

Both Hislop and the driver escaped without injury after the incident unfolded close to where Private Eye’s offices are located.

Following medical treatment for his injuries, Hislop is reported to be “okay”, according to sources close to the magazine.

Hislop has served as editor of Private Eye since 1986, with the fortnightly magazine known for both its satire and investigative journalism.

His tenure has made him one of the most sued men in English legal history, due to the magazine’s fearless approach to printing allegations against the powerful.

Speaking to the Independent in 2010, Hislop said: “When I took over, I made a number of very pompous statements about how I was really going to cut the libel bills and this shoddy approach to libel wasn’t going to exist any more.”

The magazine reportedly reserves a quarter of its budget for legal cases.
