After 112 years on the ocean floor, the wreckage of the RMS Titanic is starting to fall apart.
RMS Titanic Inc, which runs research and recovery expeditions to the wreckage in the North Atlantic Ocean, provided an update on the ghostly remains of the ship.
It revealed a 15-ft section of port side railing had broken off the main ship wreckage and fallen to the floor.
“From films to literature, Titanic’s looming hull has become a staple in the story and imagery of the great liner,” a statement on RMS Titanic, Inc’s official Facebook page. read.
“For decades, the bow was a testament to the resilience of her strength and pride.
“The drastic change in the celebrated image is a reminder that Titanic is deteriorating, advancing our resolve to preserve her legacy.”
Previous expeditions have found other parts of Titanic are collapsing due to the passage of time.
Explorer Victor Vescovo led dives in 2019 which revealed the starboard side of the officer’s quarters were also falling apart.
