Town criers are surely in the streets with the news that Harry Styles and the actor Taylor Russell have reportedly broken up after a little over a year of dating. Today, the singer was seen for the first time since the split with an accessory that makes us think the two were able to walk away on good terms.
Styles’s outfit is, at first glance, an unremarkable incognito look. The pop star wore a maroon Cadogan Tate sweatshirt and black shorts with Adidas Sambas and white, calf-high socks. But it was the singer’s bag that raised some eyebrows. Styles wore a JW Anderson Bumper bag as a crossbody. While the black mini satchel with its puffed-up edges may not be the most groundbreaking purse ever worn by a man, it’s the bag’s maker that offers a clue.
JW Anderson is Jonathan Anderson’s namesake label, but the designer also serves as creative director of Loewe. Russell is a Loewe ambassador, has walked in the label’s show, and even wore them to her first Met Gala earlier this month.
When break-ups have the potential to fracture friend groups, it seems like Anderson was able to keep both Styles and Russell. So, perhaps the bag is a symbol of continuing patronage – and friendship – between Harry Styles and Jonathan Anderson.
