With just a week left in the 2024 US presidential election cycle, Donald Trump and Kamala Harris are making their final pitches to voters across the country, particularly the battleground states.
The vice president is delivering a “closing argument” at the Ellipse in Washington DC, the site of his notorious “fight like hell” speech on January 6, 2021.
In the remarks, she is expected to label her political opponent as “unstable” and “obssessed with revenge.” People began lining up for the event roughly three hours before its start.
It comes as Trump continues to face fallout from his controversial rally on Sunday at New York’s Madison Square Garden, during which comedian Tony Hinchcliffe described Puerto Rico as a “floating island of garbage.” Speaking in Pennsylvania on Tuesday, Trump told supporters that “no president has ever done more for Puerto Rico.”
At a separate event earlier in the day he described the rally at MSG as “an absolute love-fest.”
On Monday, while campaigning in Georgia, the former president took a swipe at former first lady Michelle Obama, saying she had been “nasty” to him in recent criticisms and ominously warning she had made “a big mistake” by doing so.

The events of January 6 were at the front of many people’s minds as they waited to hear Harris speak.
“We can’t escape thinking about it,” said Luther Jett, a retired educator from the DC area.
“This is where it happened. There’s a poetic justice in having a rally here that promotes truth and decency and freedom,” he said.

Donald Trump has told us his priorities for a second term.
He has an Enemies List of people he intends to prosecute.
He says one of his highest priorities is to set free the violent extremists who assaulted those law enforcement officers on January 6th.
Donald Trump intends to use the United States military against American citizens who simply disagree with him. People he calls—quote—“the enemy from within.” This is not a candidate for President who is thinking about how to make your life better.
