A punter missed out on a life-changing £814,000 gambling triumph… after cashing out early.

Ethan Conway, a 24 year-old scaffolder from Mountain Ash in Wales, had placed a £219 stake on three scores on the final day of the Premier League season.

Ethan had accurately predicted the results for Brighton 0-2 Manchester United, Liverpool 2-0 Wolves, and Sheffield United 0-3 Tottenham.

With Spurs and Liverpool both winning by those respective scorelines, he needed United to kick on, and when Diogo Dalot scored with 15 minutes remaining on the south coast, making it 1-0 to Erik ten Hag’s side, Ethan decided to play it safe and cashed out. He claimed winnings of £5,130 with just 15 minutes left in the game, and was initially thrilled.

However, when Rasmus Hojlund made it 2-0 in the 88th minute, he was left devastated by his decision. Had he decided not to cash out, his 3717/1 bet would’ve landed him a life-changing £814,000 fortune.

“I was just tamping, really. Just heartbroken disbelief if anything,” he told Wales Online. “I was looking at new cars, new houses, but obviously it’s a different story now. [My family and friends] were in disbelief as well. But obviously they’re happy that I won the five grand.”

Ethan, a Liverpool supporter, watches football regularly and usually bets on matches every weekend, but this is the first time he’s struck lucky and won as much as £5,000.

“I just had a rough guess and it just came in. Just pure luck,” he said. He’s decided to bank his winnings and insists there’s “no chance” he’ll be splashing cash on bets any time soon.
