Gurman: Two new AirPods 4 sets to come next month with USB-C

Must read

Apple will launch not one, but two AirPods 4 audio wearables in September, revealed Mark Gurman in his weekly Power On newsletter for Bloomberg. Both will be in-ear TWS earphones in a case with a USB-C port, a first for the non-Pro series.

One of the versions will be an affordable option with basic functionality, while the other will bring active noise canceling and could also offer wireless charging.

The vanilla AirPods 4 should replace the AirPods 2 in Apple’s roster, while the ANC tier will be a newer variant of the AirPods 3. Apple is preparing both models with “design changes” that will help distinguish both models, but we do not know what these differences could be.

We also expect a software update for the AirPods Pro 2, currently Apple’s most expensive and premium TWS earphones. They might gain “hearing aid mode” through an iOS 18 update that could combine Conversation Boost with Live Listen, but we are yet to learn how exactly that will work.
