A teenager who accompanied King Charles III and Queen Camilla on their visit to Guernsey – including riding in the Queen’s car – has said she feels “extremely lucky”.
Neave, 17, who goes to Ladies’ College, was one of six young people accompanying the royal couple on their duties.
Neave spent some time with the Queen on a private tour of Hauteville House, the former home of French author Victor Hugo, who wrote Les Miserables in the island.
But she said the “most cool bit” of the day was travelling in the Queen’s car with the governor’s wife and two other children.
Neave said the tour of the house had a “personal feel” and she also enjoyed a “bit of a chit-chat” with the Queen there.
She said the Queen told her she was history buff and a re-enactment of the author feeding local children was “quite a special moment for the Queen”.
Neave, who heads up Guernsey’s Youth Forum, said she had a moment in the day when she was in disbelief.
“Is this real?” she said.
“It was just ‘wow’.”
