Rockstar Games has finally added anti-cheat to GTA 5 on PC 9 years after the game’s initial release.
TexFunz2 first spotted the information on X (formerly Twitter), who posted a steamID patch notes screenshot of GTA 5 showing the update on PC. The patch notes reveal that Rockstar Games has opted for BattlEye for its anti-cheat.
As the community has rightfully pointed out, the news of anti-cheat in GTA 5 is welcome, but there are concerns as to whether it will impact the modding community. So far, Rockstar Games are yet to officially announce the implementation of anti-cheat, but an announcement is likely soon.
For those familiar with anit-cheat and the cheating community, cheaters have already said that BattlEye isn’t the best at preventing cheaters. Rainbow 6 Siege, which also used BattlEye, has been slammed by the community for its poor anti-cheat in recent years, with many of its games containing hackers.
As for whether it will prevent the cheating situation in GTA 5 on PC, it remains to be seen, but at the moment, it seems to be a welcome sign for those who are still playing the game. Despite being nine years old, GTA 5 on PC still achieves around 160,000 concurrent players in any given day.
