But the build-up has been marred by countless leaked images and videos online.

To get ahead of the issue, the tech giant has opted to just reveal the new devices now – though exact features and technical details will still have to wait until August 13.

Both the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro Fold have been shown in the flesh for the first time by Google.

It also confirms that the Pixel 9 Pro Fold will indeed be named just that.

Having the number is key – this hints that the Fold is entering the main family of Pixel handsets rather than sitting alongside it, meaning we could see new Fold releases each year alongside the traditional phones.

The Pixel 9 Pro featured in a promo video which heavily focused on the company’s latest AI gizmo, Gemini.

In the Fold clip, we see that the camera will come in the form of a double-stacked lenses on the rear of the device.

That’s a change from the existing Pixel Fold, which is a more traditional long but thin design for the camera compartment.

“A foldable phone built for the Gemini era. Out with the old. In with the Fold,” Google said.

Fans also get a glimpse of the internal main display and the all-important hinge.

“This is actually a good design I can see the improvement already,” one commenter wrote on YouTube.

“So far that fold is looking incredible!!! Looks like Team Pixel and Google are going to hit the sweet spot!!” another said.

A third added: “All eyes on you Apple, the foldable game is moving fast.”

Google has also put a store page live for the handsets, saying: “Get ready for a whole new era of phones.”

Aside from features, the price is also being kept under wraps until launch day in August.

But for comparison, the first Pixel Fold was released for a whooping £1,749 / $1799.
