Google has reportedly decided to discontinue its infinite scrolling features to bring in its classic pagination bar for desktop users, allowing them to directly get to a specific page of search results by simply clicking “Next.”

The endless scrolling feature was first introduced for mobile devices in October 2021 and later extended to desktop search results in 2022.

However, according to a report from Search Engine Land, the continuous scrolling is now over, The Verge reported.

Google told Search Engine Land that “this change is to allow the search company to serve the search results faster on more searches instead of automatically loading results that users haven’t explicitly requested.”

This move is expected to enhance the user experience by delivering search results more efficiently and effectively.

In addition, Google has also announced another change, it is adding new artificial intelligence (AI) features to Gmail to boost the user experience and make the application more manageable.

The tech company is rolling out a tool called the Gemini side panel, designed to summarise email threads and write new emails. As per Google, the web tool will provide “proactive prompts” in addition to allowing users to ask “freeform questions.”

The Gemini side panel will also be available in Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Drive, but only to paid subscribers.
