Sony Santa Monica is hard at work on its next project following God of War: Ragnarok. Teased on social media, the PlayStation first-party studio is working on a new game for PS5 gamers.
New God of War?
In a post on social media, Filipino PlayStation Playmaker Sarah Carlos revealed they were invited to see Sony Santa Monica’s next project. While no information was shared, the official content creator teased that fans would hear more soon.
“Today was the BEST day EVER! I can’t overstate how blessed I am to be a fan of these fans of their fans aka SonySantaMonica,” Carlos said. “More pics soon and stay tuned for word on an upcoming project.
When asked if she could give hints for the God of War studio’s next project, the PlayStation Playmaker responded with a cryptic tease.
In her response, Carlos simply responded with two black squares and a red triangle. This could be a tease for a third God of War game, or something else entirely. (But it’s probably another Kratos adventure.)
A speedy turnaround
As one of PlayStation’s key first-party studios, Sony Santa Monica has one of the fastest turnarounds in the games industry.
In comparison to the years of development by internal rival Naughty Dog, Sony Santa Monica takes just a few years to deliver its major exclusives.
While the first entry in the God of War reboot trilogy launched in 2018, its sequel launched just three years later. With this in mind, it would actually be realistic to expect the third entry in the series to launch sometime in 2025 for PS5 with a PC release sometime later.
Following the massive failure of Concord, a key PS5 exclusive removed from sale, Sony could use a win. As it stands, a new entry in this beloved PlayStation series would be an easy success.
