Glenn Close is the latest star to board the new Knives Out mystery movie. The actress has joined the all-star cast of Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, Rian Johnson’s thriller headlined by Daniel Craig.
The Netflix feature has been on a casting tear in the past week, furiously sowing up deals as it heads toward an early June production start in the UK.
Challengers’ Josh O’Connor, Civil War actress Cailee Spaeny, Ripley star Andrew Scott and Scandal alum Kerry Washington are already on the list of suspects (and maybe represent a victim or two).
Plot details and character information are being kept in the morgue, but the thriller is expected to follow the same circuitous path as Johnson’s previous Knives Out mysteries. Eccentric, Southern-fried detective Benoit Blanc (Criag) will uncover the details behind a murder while surrounded by a coterie of colorful characters.
Johnson wrote the script and is directing. He is also producing with his partner Ram Bergman via their T-Street banner.
Lionsgate released the first Knives Out movie in 2019. It grossed over $310 million at the global box office and featured an ensemble cast that included Craig, Chris Evans, Ana de Armas, Jamie Lee Curtis and Christopher Plummer, among others.
For follow-up Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, the newly-birthed franchise moved to Netflix with the 2022 installment starring Craig, Edward Norton, Janelle Monáe, Kate Hudson and Dave Bautista.
Close, an eight-time Oscar nominee and three-time Tony winner, has several movies in post-production, among them Lee Daniel’s supernatural thriller The Deliverance and the action comedy Back in Action, which marks Cameron Diaz’s first film in a decade and also stars Jamie Foxx. Both features will debut on Netflix.
She is repped by CAA, MGMT Entertainment, and Loeb & Loeb.
